The Challenge

The client estimated that 30% of their potential revenue was being lost to software piracy. A well-organized network of 847 websites was distributing cracked versions of their software, complete with fake license keys. The network had been operating for over 3 years.

Our Approach

RescueShield used dark web intelligence to map the piracy network's infrastructure — hosting providers, payment processors, and affiliate sites. We coordinated DMCA takedowns at the hosting level and worked with payment processors to disrupt the network's monetization. Simultaneously, we prepared a criminal referral package for law enforcement.

The Outcome

All 847 piracy domains were removed within 90 days. License compliance increased by 78% as legitimate customers who had been using cracked versions converted to paid licenses. Revenue recovered in the first year post-enforcement exceeded $3.1 million.

“The dark web intelligence was eye-opening. We had no idea the piracy network was this organized. RescueShield dismantled the entire operation.”
